Casting

CASTING

Wednesday, April 21 (10:00am and 7.00pm).

Presented by Andrena Finlay and Daphne Paris

Overview:

In this Skills Lab, we will explore the producer/casting director relationship, and how/when to start casting. Learn to ask yourself important questions from the outset: is a “name” lead actor necessary for your project, how is that decision made (and with whom), and who makes the approach? We will drill down into cast agreements with detail on a cast picture deal memo, calculating and negotiating cast fees, appropriate buy-outs for ancillary rights, loadings, penalties and additional work such as publicity and promotion. For micro budget productions, learn strategies for rights buy-outs: balance purchasing up front vs. what can be held and paid later when you make a sale.
