Options & Purchase Agreements

Overview:

If you intend to develop a screen project adapted from an existing work, you will need to have the rights to do so. The producer’s first job in the development process is to secure those rights and negotiate the terms and conditions with the rights holder.

This Skills Lab will give you a comprehensive understand of the legal and commercial language in Option and Purchase Agreements. You will have greater agency in negotiations and have the skills to communicate efficiently with your lawyer. Save on excessive legal fees!

In this Skills Lab you will learn:

– Become familiar with industry commercial and legal terms used in the Options and Rights Agreements.
– Understand how to negotiate key terms and know what you must secure and what you can afford to surrender.
– Chain of Title.  What rights are you expected to clear for investors, distributors, sales agents, and why.
